Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai has a distinctly SUV-like appearance due to its larger dimensions. Moreover, the wheel sizes of 19 inches in Ti and ST-L models may be a bit spongy at times. The front tyres in the Qashqai could also lose grip on rough surfaces and its CVT can sometimes display wrist-flexing torque steering.
This is generally caused by an inoperable coin battery, which can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Make sure that the replacement battery is of the same size, voltage and specifications.
Water Damage
Water damage is one of the most common causes that cause a Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID incorrect" message. The key fob has rubber seals that shield the electronic chip inside, however prolonged exposure to moisture could cause it to stop functioning properly. It is common to observe this if your key fob has been dropped in the ocean or swimming pool. However, it could also occur when it is wet from the rain or soapy hands.
If your key fob was exposed to water over the course of a long time then you might need to clean it using isopropyl and electronic cleaner. In addition, it may require a visit to a professional for repair or replacement.
If your key fob need to be replaced the process is simple. First, ensure that you have a multipack of the correct battery (CR2032 3V). Unlock the front and rear cases with a flathead screwdriver. You'll need to remove the metal retaining clips and pull out the old battery and insert the new one. After reassembling the fob, put the mechanical key back in place and check that it operates correctly. If it doesn't it is necessary to take it to your local Nissan dealer or an expert auto locksmith to replace the chip that controls the key. Fortunately, the chip is not normally damaged by exposure to water and therefore this shouldn't be too expensive.
Dead Coin Battery
The coin battery is another frequent reason why your Nissan Qashqai remote key fob may not work. The batteries typically last for 3-5 years, but they are susceptible to becoming depleted over time, particularly if the fob is dropped frequently. You could try replacing the battery with a new one, but make sure that it's the same voltage and size as the original. If you use a new battery, it may cause the key to be assigned a different key ID. This could prevent it from being linked to your vehicle.
The best way to change the battery on the Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to break it open using an incredibly small screwdriver. The screwdriver should be put into a small notch on the bottom of your key fob. The screwdriver should be gently twisted to break the two halves. Then, take out the old CR2025 button cell battery and replace it with the new one after confirming its position on the fob.

Before putting the new battery in place, make sure there is no water damage or dirt on the terminals. If there is, clean the terminals with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. You'll also need to ensure that the pole cables are plugged in correctly. They should be connected to the negative and positive poles of your battery, respectively.
Diagnostics of a fault
If your Nissan Qashqai's key fob stops working after being exposed to clean tap or rain water it could be a sign that there's a problem with the internal chip. Change the battery won't fix the issue, and you'll need to purchase another key fob. If The KeyLab didn't work after dropping it, it is likely that the chip inside was damaged. It is possible to get the key fob to work once again if it is removed and clean the chip with paper towel and isopropyl alcohol and then put it back in.
Key ID Incorrect is a typical error that you can see on the dashboard of your car. The vehicle is unable to recognize the key fob which is why it won't allow the car to start. The problem can be caused by a variety of things including water damage, undetectable issues in the circuitry of the key fob or RFID interference.
The key fob will cease to function in the event that the batteries with 12 volts are dead or fail to provide sufficient electric current. This could affect your Nissan Qashqai's remote keyless system, central locking and the ability to start the engine with the key fob. Check the batteries inside the key fob if it is not able to lock or unlock your door by hand. You can also try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob has not been submerged in salt water the device should be able to come back to life after a simple rinse with clean water. You may also try cleaning the electronic chip using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If these don't work it could be time to replace the entire key fob with a new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key still does not work, it could be a connection problem between it and the vehicle. Start by turning the ignition key but not activating the vehicle. Repeat this process until the hazard lights flash twice. Then, turn off the vehicle and remove the key.
Open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It is usually located on the door jamb or the handle of the driver's door. Find the small button labeled "program" and press it. When the process is complete you will hear an audible sound.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car now is the time to try it out. Stand some distance away from the vehicle, and click all of the buttons on it. If the lights flash and the horn sound, it means that the key has successfully connected to the Nissan. You can also test it near the Nissan.
